Byford Botanic
The series of five freestanding sculptures by Western Australian artists Pavel Perina and George Domahidy are based on abstracted flower and leaf designs. The sculptures are of different heights, colours and positions symbolising both the diversity and the similarity of a community, as well as a journey of growth and learning.
The curved and swaying stems focus the eye upwards to the umbrella like canopies stretching towards the sky, a metaphor of growth, evolution and individual progress.
Two of the artworks feature hidden moving components, which rotate the stems of the sculptures. These cannot be activated by a single student and require collaboration and cooperation to operate.
As there is no visual difference in the five stems, the students will eventually discover the concealed interactive elements and work out how the stems can be made to move.
Artwork is located at Byford South East Primary Scholl
